THE BOWLO AT BANGALOW IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Following three (3) years of trading between Norths and the former Bangalow Bowling & Sports Club Limited (the Bowlo), Norths has undertaken a detailed review which has identified:
The Bowlo premises requires substantial and costly repairs and refurbishment to meet compliance, safety and operational standards
The safety of staff and patrons alike is our first priority. This is why the Norths Board has determined, regrettably, that the only responsible and sensible course of action is to cease trading until further notice. The decision has not been taken lightly but reflects Norths’ obligations to act prudently and in accordance with its governance, safety and financial responsibilities.
Norths is continuing to make all efforts to give the community ownership of the site. Eight weeks ago, Norths asked the Bangalow Advisory Committee if they are interested in taking the clubhouse back. Norths also remains open to de-amalgamating and also would consider leasing the property to the Committee (or its nominated entity) subject to an undertaking to fund all necessary capital works in full compliance to the Building Code of Australia.
Norths is hopeful that the local community will be able to resurrect the Bowlo and Norths remains receptive to those discussions. We hope a deal can be struck where locals take over.
It is important to maintain accurate information about these circumstances, so that the club has the best opportunity to remain in community hands of locals
